Abstract
The elbow joint has a complex anatomy with multiple neurovascular structures crossing the joint. Elbow arthroscopy continues to be a challenging surgical procedure with a steep learning curve and a relatively high risk of iatrogenic injury to these neurovascular structures. This article discusses the potential complications, describes the indications for arthroscopic elbow surgery and highlights measures to prevent iatrogenic damage. Explanations for a standardized operative work-up with particular advantages and disadvantages as well as anatomical considerations are given.
