Toward an EFSA-guided food consumption survey in Luxembourg

ABOUT THE STUDY:
LuxFoods is a national pilot study designed to develop and test a standardized, European Food Safety Authority-compliant methodology for conducting a national dietary intake survey among adults in Luxembourg. Led by the LIH, in collaboration with Sciensano and the University of Cambridge and funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture/Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA), the study aims to address the current lack of harmonized, representative food consumption data in the country. It will test the feasibility of collecting dietary data using multiple 24-hour recalls and a food propensity questionnaire, supported by adapting the Intake24 digital tool to Luxembourg’s multilingual and multicultural context. The pilot also includes collecting anthropometric and optional biomarker data, as well as evaluating recruitment strategies, data quality, and participant engagement. Ultimately, the project will generate methodological recommendations and practical insights to inform the design and implementation of a full-scale national dietary survey aligned with European standards, supporting public health policy and nutrition research in Luxembourg.
