54rd European Diabetes Epidemiology Group Annual Meeting

    Project Details

European Diabetes Epidemiology Group (EDEG) is the oldest of the EASD study groups, and meetings have been held successfully every year since the establishment of the group in 1965. The group has 218 members, both clinicians and full time researchers, and typically 100-150 people attend the meeting each year. The attendees come from all European countries and often diabetes epidemiologists and clinicians from the US and Asia also find their way to the meetings. The size of the meetings makes them ideal for international networking and offers a great opportunity for young researchers to present their data in a fruitful and constructive atmosphere. The meetings cover a wide range of diabetes epidemiological topics including both type 1 and type 2 diabetes and its risk factors and complications. The meetings have a recurrent strong focus on epidemiological methods including the development of new methods in diabetes epidemiology, and EDEG has published several statement papers. EDEG plays an important role for the current strong position of European diabetes epidemiology, also on an international scale.
With recent advances in availability of individually linked information on diabetes-related health and register-compiled information in most European countries, a further focus area has been to bridge the two sources of information on a solid quantitative background. Central topics at the meeting in Luxembourg 2019 will cover methodological issues in diabetes epidemiology, diabetes prevention and surveillance systems, diabetes intervention programs, health economics, diabetes translational studies, and community trials in diabetes.
